Creating care-full listening and conversations between members of conflicting groups in Israel: Narrative means to transformative listening

Author
Abstract
This article describes the “care-full listening and conversations” program for working in schools with teachers and students. The program was developed in Israel, a multinational and multicultural society that has a lot of tension, strife, and violence between groups. The program aims at developing the kind of listening that can transform people to create and perform preferred narratives about these multicultural differences. This program is based on ideas and practices of family therapy in general and narrative therapy in particular. The theoretical background is reviewed and the program is described together with examples of group exercises and the experiences of participants.
